Pegasus Juniors dominant

West Midlands Regional League Premier Division. 29/3/14

                      Sporting Khalsa v Pegasus Juniors

Sporting Khalsa were undone by possibly the best team I've seen in this league, this season. Not too long ago I attended the excellent game here between Khalsa and Lye Town and I noted then how comfortable SK looked in this company. Alas, the same cannot be said for the performance today.
To be fair,it has to be said Pegasus were in almost total control; they were that good. By comparison the hosts seemed out of sorts as a unit.
SK must have been wondering what had hit them as the visitors scored inside two minutes. Hardly had the game restarted when Pegasus scored a second and it got worse. By the time the referee blew for half-time,the visitors had stormed into a seemingly unassailable 4-0 lead helped,it must be said by a generous home defence who for some inexplicable reason appeared totally disorganised. Neither side was helped much by a brisk wind but Pegasus looked to be coping with it better than their opponents.

Half-time ; Sporting Khalsa 0 Pegasus Juniors 4

Within ten minutes of the restart the visitors were awarded a penalty which was duly despatched. The referee was kept busy issuing a number of yellow cards(I stopped counting at seven) but it was never a dirty game, just occasionally 'niggly'. Following a couple of substitutions the home side upped their game, rallied and saw a lot more of the ball but the impressive Pegasus defence was in no mood to yield. Indeed, they not only looked like Arsenal, the defence was playing like them ! There was always a leg, boot, shin or head in the way of anything played by Khalsa. Such was the visitors' defensive dominance,I cannot remember their goalkeeper having to make a serious save.

Sporting Khalsa are better, much better than this. Pegasus Juniors really could not have looked much better. They're a very good side and I for one think the chase for the title is far from a foregone conclusion.

Our MOTM was the visitors No 9(who was substituted late in the game) who caused no end of problems in the home defence.

Wulfs find their fangs.

               Midland Football Alliance   22/3/2014

                          AFC Wulfrunians v Quorn

My mate deserted me this week in favour of Shrewsbury Town v Bradford City. He'll be back next week 'cos I know he'll need his feed of Proper Football. I don't know what the Town game was like but this was well worth watching. The visitors,Quorn are battling Tividale for the title and this was the first time I'd seen them and they do look a very good side while Wulfrunians seem to be on the march again following a dodgy run of results.

Wulfs could have been two goals to the good inside the first ten minutes bar some incredible last-ditch defending but Quorn soon found their feet and their midfield were impressive in controlling Wulfs' attacks. However, they didn't have things all their own way and the hosts always looked dangerous breaking from defence. Wulfs were undone on the half-hour by some slack marking, a ball swung in from the left gave the Quorn forward all the time and space needed to slot home. The visitors pressed for a second goal and enjoyed a relatively comfortable remainder of the first half.

Half-time ; AFC Wulfrunians 0 Quorn 1

Wulfrunians were much improved at the start of the second half and on 52 minutes were awarded a penalty, swiftly dispatched by Sedgemore. The hosts were now a different side, the goal seeming to re-invigorate them and they went at Quorn with a vengeance, more than once looking like they would take the lead. Indeed, the Wulfrunians equaliser made what was already a good game, even better and it was hard to pick a winner. Just when you thought the hosts would score, the visitors would break away at speed and look like scoring themselves.

A thoroughly entertaining game, played in good spirit was let down by far too many interruptions. This is the sort of football people will come to watch in the future when they tire of the money,BS and play-acting in the PL. Congratulations to both teams for a bloody good game.

This looks a bit iffy

AFC Wulfrunians unlucky

Midland Football Alliance                                       15/3/14

Tipton Town v AFC Wulfrunians

I rarely see a bad game in the Alliance ; it's just some games are better than others. This one could have been a lot better although it has to be said not through lack of effort. Just a couple of weeks ago Town put on a good performance at Castlecroft against Wulfs and came away with a well-deserved 3 points. This game was a complete reversal with Wulfrunians dominating for long periods and Tipton being extremely fortunate to get anything from the game. The hosts experienced a' bad day at the office ' and the visitors seemingly 'could do no wrong ' . There's really not much more I can say on the game so instead of filling the page with a load of crap, have a look at some nice pictures from the game.

My mate Pete picked Wulfrunians No 5(don't know his name) as his MOTM.I wouldn't argue with that; the guy had a real good game, was quick into the tackle, won everything in the air and very nearly scored.

Tividale held

                         Midland Football Alliance

                           Tividale v Kirby Muxloe

It's the middle of March and Tividale play only their third home game this year ! (The monkey on their back being their own pitch). K M arrive with 35 points in the bag from 29 games with Tividale amassing 61 from 26 . Ordinarily, this would be a game the hosts could expect to win in their push for the title.Only these are not ordinary times for Tividale. From now until seasons' end they will be playing catch-up at the rate of 3 - 4 games per week and while they have looked to many observers the best team in the league by some way, they are not super-human. Tiredness is inevitably going to creep in and there could be some surprise results.

The hosts got into their stride straight away and it surprised no-one when they took the lead in the 10th minute, the keeper being cleverly lobbed. It seemed this would be the first of many but ever so gradually K M worked themselves into the game, the main threat coming from their two lightning-quick forwards and I for one, sensed this may not be quite as predictable a result. From the half-hour mark the visitors were looking increasingly dangerous and they got their reward on 37 minutes with a similar goal to the hosts.

Half -time Tividale 1 Kirby Muxloe 1

The second half saw Tividale asserting themselves more but nevertheless being frustrated by the visitors willingness to battle for everything. Despite having the bulk of possession, the hosts were nearly caught out on a couple of occasions.Their own cause was not helped by some wayward shots on goal; indeed the visiting keeper had a relatively comfortable time of it.( I don't think he drew breath all night long, giving a running commentary for all and sundry ! )

In the end a draw was more or less a fair result even allowing for Tividales' possession as K M were certainly not over-awed and earned their point by never allowing Tividale to settle on the ball.

Here I feel it only fair to mention Tividales' number 5(sorry,don't know his name). While all around him,his team-mates were getting increasingly frustrated and wound-up( I think they had 4 or 5 yellow-cards),this guy was strolling around like Cool Hand Luke , hardly putting a foot wrong. My MOTM by some way.

Apologies for the poor picture quality.
