Wulfrunians finish in style.

Midland Football League

AFC Wulfrunians v Alvechurch

Wulfrunians' management team will have been pleased with this performance as they ended the season in style with a comfortable win over opponents Alvechurch,to cement a top 7 finish.From the off the hosts were at it with special mention being given to Thompson who gave a virtuoso display of leading the line,bagging himself a hat-trick in the process.Alvechurch just didn't know how to handle him and his first goal where he harried the defender into a poor back-pass which he pounced on, typified his whole afternoon. The visitors tried but they didn't manage their first direct shot on goal until the second half ,when they were much better,going close on a couple of occasions.

Afternoon of two football matches

Today(Saturday 18th April 2015) I watched two matches. Below are the reports of both games

1st GAME ;

West Midlands Regional League
Wednesfield FC v Bilston Town Community

This was a game that had all a neutral could hope for.It was a typical 'blood and thunder' local derby where skill,effort,commitment and goals were in plentiful supply.The hosts Wednesfield, have, for various reasons,endured a difficult season whereas the visitors have consolidated from last season enjoying relative success.The first half was incident-packed with plenty of shots on goal from both sides,most being 'high,wide and not very handsome'.The second half was a totally different story with Bilston mainly controlling the game and Wednesfield limited to the occasional upfield foray.Wednesfields' game-plan was not helped when their number 5 was red-carded midway through the half and from then on,it was a matter of how many would the visitors score. They managed four but this could have been doubled but for the efforts of the home goalkeeper who had a storming game.Well done to Bilston who, after a poor first half,upped their game,but I for one was impressed with the home sides' attitude. They kept going even when reduced to 10 men,refusing to cave in against a side threatening to overwhelm them.An excellent game played in good spirit(apart from one unfortunate incident).It's games like this that keep me watching local football.

Result ; Wednesfield 0 Bilston Town Community 4

Sporting Khalsa confirmed Champions.

West Midlands Regional League

Gornal Athletic v Sporting Khalsa

With this result,Khalsa not only confirmed themselves Champions but proved beyond any doubt,if it were needed,they are way too good for this League.Gornal are a very good side but were second-best to a very accomplished outfit.All over the park the visitors were nearly always first to the ball and fast into the tackle.Trailing 1-0 the hosts were not helped when their goalkeeper had a rush of blood and thought he could  dribble the ball past a Khalsa player on the 6-yard line..............he couldn't, and the visitors had their second.Gornal,third in the table, were never overrun and had their own moments but lacked a cutting edge.The visitors got a third but credit to the hosts who never threw in the towel and kept going right up to the whistle.An altogether excellent game,played in good spirit,except............

On an altogether different note, mention must be given to the visiting management team in the dug-out who vociferously questioned every decision that didn't go their way and gave dogs' abuse to the referee and his team and generally got on most spectators' nerves.They don't need to do it; results prove that and it's time they knocked it on the head.

Result ; Gornal Athletic 0 Sporting Khalsa 3

Congratulations to Sporting Khalsa on being confirmed Champions.
