Casuals progress.

                      Buildbase FA Vase 1st Round

Wolverhampton Casuals 2 Chelmsley Town 1

For the neutral spectator, this was a more than decent game to watch between two very evenly-matched sides with plenty of skill, effort and robust tackling on show. Casuals almost took the lead in the 3rd minute with a header just shaving the bar but it was the visitors who finally broke the deadlock in the ⚽ 43rd  minute when Woods' number 10 drew the keeper and deftly slid the ball into the net.

Half-time.

It wasn't too long before the hosts were level. In the 56th minute they got an equalizer from a bit of 'direct football',the keeper hoofing it downfield, one bounce and Casuals own number 10 did the rest. That's how it stayed until the final minutes when the hosts got a winner .You would probably have to say it was hard on the Midland League Division 1 visitors who certainly did enough to not lose but it's Casuals' name in the hat for the next round πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸΎπŸ‘πŸ‘πŸΎ.

Tivi tops in local derby.

⚽  Midland Football League Premier Division

                            Tividale 3 AFC Wulfrunians 1

🎢🎡 Nobody told me there'd be days like these.....strange days indeed, strange days indeed πŸŽΆπŸŽ΅sang John Lennon in 1984;strange days indeed for these two stalwarts of West Midlands football.Who would have thought at season start we'd see Tividale and Wulfrunians at the wrong end of the table in October ? Such are the vagaries of grassroots football.

Tividale were on the front foot from the off, chasing, harrying, not giving Wulfrunians a spare second on the ball and it paid off on ⚽19⚽ minutes with a sublime turn and shot which if anything, went slightly against the run of play,Wulfs having had possibly more possession up to that point but without  having a direct shot on goal. The reason for their lack of goal efforts was the home defence which in a word was superb. This was a strangely subdued Wulfs where on numerous occasions they would build up a head of steam only for a pass to go astray whereas Dale were playing the more concise game, passes finding their target.⚽10⚽minutes into the second half Dale increased their lead;dithering in Wulfs' defence conceded possession, the keeper saving the resultant shot only to push the ball into the path of the oncoming forward who gratefully accepted. The hosts were improving as the game went on winning nearly everything in midfield and were unlucky  when a stunning shot from 30 yards rattled the crossbar but they were not to be denied and  on ⚽76⚽ minutes they were rewarded for their efforts with a third goal.Wulfs reduced the arrears straight from the kick-off through ⚽Brady⚽ and had improved considerably following two substitutions. They went looking for more but the home defence held firm for a thoroughly deserved three points. This result could well be the kick-start to Tivis' campaign but will exacerbate things for a Wulfs' side already low on confidence.

Khalsa edge it.

                                                      ⚽ ⚽ ⚽ ⚽ ⚽
Midland Football League

Sporting Khalsa 2  St Andrews 0

Former East Midlands Counties League Champions St Andrews have adapted extremely well in their first season in the MFL and are certainly a side to watch.Khalsa,on the other hand have been one of the better sides in this league, for a few seasons now and after a somewhat faltering start, they have recently put together some excellent results.

The game was ultimately decided by two penalties, both in Khalsas' favour;the two sides were so evenly matched,it made for a fascinating game.Scoring chances were at a premium as both midfields cancelled out each other. The first half was possibly just shaded by the visitors but the hosts seemed to grow stronger in the second half. The penalties were fairly clear-cut inasmuch as the referee had little choice but to award them.

The game was played in a fantastic spirit and I can see both sides challenging for honours this season. This win sees the hosts leapfrog their opponents by a point albeit having played two games more.
