Wolverhampton Utd win in a mud-fest

West Midlands Regional League Division 2

Wolverhampton Utd 3  Bewdley Town Reserves 2

We arrived at Prestwood Road for a 3 o'clock kick-off only to hear the ref blowing for half-time.I forgot during winter-time, games here start at 2pm. Never mind,we still saw an excellent game, albeit played in quagmire conditions, which were not helped by a couple of cloudbursts during the second half. You would have to feel for the visitors;they certainly did enough to earn a draw but fair do's to Utd who refused to buckle when the pressure was on.Credit to every player on the pitch for such efforts in appalling conditions.

Steelmen put on a show.

⚽ West Midlands Regional League Premier Division ⚽

Bilston Town Community 5  Wellington 0

Following last weeks' incident-packed 9-0 win,Wellington were brought back down to earth with a considerable bump by a committed BTC side. The game was given a lift by the considerable following of the Bromsgrove group of Aston Villa supporters  who had decided to take in a NL game before their match at Molineux, boosting not only the atmosphere with their support of The Steelmen but also the bar takings! I doubt those same AV supporters would enjoy their game against Wolves half as much as this one .

A cracking game with plenty of commitment and no little skill was just what the doctor ordered on a cold January afternoon. The visitors had chances but were unable to break down a resolute BTC defence whereas The Steelmen had an ace up their sleeve in the guise of their number 9 who tormented the visiting defenders all afternoon with his pace and skill.
Wellington may feel hard done by the scoreline but Bilston were in no mood to give away anything and had that cutting edge lacking in the visitors.

Sporting Khalsa progress in FA Vase.

⚽The Buildbase FA Vase 4th Round Proper

Sporting Khalsa 1 Tring Athletic 0

It was FA Cup 3rd round day but this NL equivalent was well worth the effort. Two extremely well-match sides put on a thoroughly exhilarating show. The visitors went for it straight from kick-off and it took Khalsa a good 10-15 minutes to get into their stride and master the visitors' ploy of lumping the ball up to their very nippy number 9.From that point on the hosts had the lions' share of the play without possessing the nous to break down an extremely well-drilled defensive unit. When the visitors ditched the hoofing  and played it on the ground they had much more success and also looked more threatening. The game always looked as though one goal would settle it and so it was as Khalsa converted a penalty about 10 minutes from the end.It was probably just about the right result but you had to feel for the visitors who really do look an excellent side.
